= m e to Realistic Mass Relations in Quark - Lepton Symmetric Models

چکیده
In recent years a new potential symmetry of fundamental particle physics has been investigated — discrete quark-lepton symmetry. When this symmetry is implemented, however, it often leads to either of the unrealistic predictions m u = m e or m d = m e. This paper considers two possible ways models based on m d = m e can be made realistic.

Se p 19 98 Embedding Phenomenological Quark - Lepton Mass Matrices into SU ( 5 ) Gauge Models
We construct phenomenological quark-lepton mass matrices based on S 3 permutation symmetry in a manner fully compatible with SU(5) grand unification. The Higgs particles we need are 5, 45 and their conjugates. The model gives a charge −1/3 quark vs charged lepton mass relation, and also a good fit to mass-mixing relations for the quark sector, as well as an attractive mixing pattern for the lep...
متن کاملPhenomenology of the two Higgs doublet sector of a quark-lepton symmetric model.
In the simplest examples of models with a discrete quark-lepton symmetry, an electroweak symmetry breaking sector with more than one Higgs doublet is necessary to obtain the correct mass relations between quarks and leptons. A two Higgs doublet model version has flavour-nonconserving Yukawa couplings, which are proportional to the masses of the quark-lepton symmetric partners of the fermions. W...

متن کاملProton Decay and Realistic Models of Quark and Lepton Masses
It is shown that in realistic SUSY GUT models of quark and lepton masses both the proton decay rate and branching ratios differ in general from those predicted in the minimal SU(5) supersymmetric model. The observation of proton decay, and in particular the branching ratio B[(p → π+ν)/(p → K+ν)], would thus allow decisive tests of these fermion mass schemes. It is shown that the charged lepton ...
متن کاملRadiative Fermion Mass Hierarchy in a Non-supersymmetric Unified Theory
In non-supersymmetric grand unified models a “radiative fermion mass hierarchy” can be achieved in which the spectrum of quark and lepton masses is determined entirely by physics at the unification scale, with many relations following from the unified gauge symmetry, and with the masses of the lightest family arising from loops. A simple, realistic, and predictive model of this kind is presente...
